Time went by &amp;amp; I couldn't seem to draw the perfect cat which would look pretty on a cake. and, AHA! I remembered that I purchased Marie cookie cutters awhile back and decided to use them to do fondant cut-outs. When I saw the picture, I got really excited about it as I have been waiting for the chance to do a fondant bow. I loved the color theme of the cake and started planning a week before the order was due.. This cake alone took me approx. 3 days to complete..&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: left;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: left;"&gt;Bought the materials needed for the cake stand as well as some plastic dowels for the standing hearts..before getting down to business..&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: left;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"&gt;&lt;a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-P01WZsShqCU/T5_2wL9BP_I/AAAAAAAAAhM/ncE8hwNZvL8/s1600/bow+cakee.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"&gt;&lt;img border="0" height="448" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-P01WZsShqCU/T5_2wL9BP_I/AAAAAAAAAhM/ncE8hwNZvL8/s640/bow+cakee.JPG" width="640" /&gt;&lt;/a&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: left;"&gt;Gum paste was used for the ribbon, letterings and the pink hearts. Spent a few hours on the big pink bow itself and it seemed to take eons for it to fully dry up and harden.. Strawberry Hearts is usually has a cream cheese/marshmallow base, layered with strawberries cut into the shape of hearts and then covered with a thin red jello layer.. Is is made of fresh strawberry mousse with 2 sponge layers.. A total of 2 boxes of fresh korean strawberries were used. I love the way the contestants cook, simple yet nice. So, the other day while having lunch with mummy at coffee club, we found the best beef salad ever. The salad was plated up with slices of beef at the side and then topped with a fruit balsamic compote. Attempt at plating up! The salad is composed of buttercup lettuce, wild rockets, asparagus and baby carrots with a balsamic salad dressing. Then, surrounded by pieces of beef topped with worcestershire black pepper sauce. I wanted to cook up a black pepper sauce initially but I had no chicken stock on hand :(&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: left;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: left;"&gt;Then, comes the mash potatoes! This can be said to be the most awesome mash potatoes, everyone loved them. Got the recipe from masterchef australia where a celebrity chef actually taught the contestants the methods/ingredients into cooking a good mash potato. So, this time, when it was Joel's birthday, he requested for a giant cupcake cake. When I first heard about it, I was really excited as I have always been eyeing the wilton cupcake pan and also admiring other cupcake cake designs..&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: left;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: left;"&gt;However, I decided not to get the pan in the end as it was rather pricey and my baking cupboard at home is already maxed out.. So, I decided to carve the cake out of 3 round cakes, 1 6.5", 2X 8" round cakes.. 3 cakes stacked up together, layered with choc cream cheese frosting = 6 layers of chocolate cake goodness.. It really was a v rich and moist cake. Then, after confirming the order with me again, it amounted to 55 cupcakes! My aunt gave me the green light to just come up with my own design, saying that Nicholas likes Thomas and friends, bob the builder, barney... So, ever since then, we've been discussing on the design of the cake. This is my first 3 tier cake and I really had fun figuring out how to assemble/decorate them. It took me around an hour just to assemble and frost the cake layers as I wasnt as familiar with the whole structure compared to my other cakes.. Top 2 tiers are red velvet cake while the middle one is a chocolate cake sandwiched with chocolate rum ganache. YUMM! But luckily, everything managed to work out in the end. Some were creamy and light, some were just hard and laden with icing sugar. The perfect frosting to me, was something which was not too sweet, really creamy and not too buttery and something not too rich.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: left;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: left;"&gt;So around a month back, I finally came up with my own recipe for cream cheese frosting after improving based on much tasting and feedback from family and friends. I must say, I really like this one(: It's definitely not gratey but smooth (easy for me to decorate with too, hee), not too sweet and almost cream like.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: left;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: left;"&gt;Ever since then, I've been using this frosting for my red velvet cakes, cupcakes and carrot cake.. Right now, I'm attempting to come up with my own buttercream frosting before I venture out to other flavors. But I can assure you readers out there, that BatterBurps doesn't use essences, chemicals etc. just for artificial taste/smell, but real, fresh ingredients. It is a fail proof recipe and really easy to follow.. I took the recipe from the blessedhomemaker.. It is a pretty small cake, measuring 6 inches wide but its just enough for my family.. Ive tried recipes from magazines, cookbooks, online ones and even youtube-d them, but couldn't seem to get the right consistency. And just last week, I found the perfect recipe! which gave me the texture I wanted for the cream puffs!&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: left;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: left;"&gt;I was really excited about it. So, last week being my last week of holidays and having plenty of time on hand, I decided to bake something more complex. Mom and sissy were crazy over these little things. They're best eaten at night after chilling as the choux pastry is still fresh.. as it will harden up a little a few days later. Baked them for door gifts. Modified the frosting, and I've since modified it again to be creamier and tastier! I made the frosting the night before, chilled it, left it out in e open and it was still a little firm. tried my luck piping and this was what happened.. (notice the ones with the messy patterns?) By then, it was close to 5pm, and I really had to rush so I just squeezed everything out of the piping bag without waiting for the frosting to cool further...&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: left;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="separator" style="clear: both; However, as a 3D cake is dense and I had a BBQ going on, I opted for a lighter cake version so that guests would not feel too bloated for dessert (:&amp;nbsp;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: left;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: left;"&gt;This cake had to be perfect and of cos, be incorporated with my favorite pink! After taking the first bite, I knew I wanted to make something like this too, so I went to ask the waitress they key ingredients. haha, I just had to try my luck. The taste was really amazing, light, not too creamy and the strawberries with all e misc stuff all combined really well. As I have not tried baking a durian cake before, I had a trial run the week before where I experimented with the mousse. I decided to bake a rectangle sponge layer as I felt that the shape was easier to cover than a round cake. It is a pretty big cake which fed ard 20-30 people.
